It was so ironic when Jeff Gold asked me to review his CD Escapes, Music for Relaxing because all my friends know how “unmusical” and tone deaf I am. However another trait I have is my “full speed ahead gets things done” attitude. One of my students once said when I walked past her desk I always went so fast that her pages flew to the floor. So this calming, soothing music CD by Jeff Gold is just what I need. And love it I did, every minute of the magical, be-at-ease hour which turned into an afternoon of easy listening as I just kept pressing the play button.
On the jacket cover it is described as “One hour of soothing instrumental music to uplift and revive you. As refreshing as a long walk along a perfect beach, ‘Escapes’ is the ideal tempo and rhythm for creative inspiration, massage, yoga, scenic drives or just winding down.”
Improve the Work and Study Environment
True! All of the above is true. When I write or read I never listen to music because to me a lot of the music is only an interruption. But today, the melodic compositions by Jeff Gold were a very welcomed addition to my work environment and will continue to be so.
Many individuals, especially those with Tourette’s syndrome, autism, Asperger’s, sensory processing issues, ADHD, or other special needs are unable to work or study in many environments because of aggravating sounds. I can see how this CD by Jeff Gold would allow them to battle the beeps and buzzes and keep them busy doing their work or studies.
Calm and Relax Hyper Students
Teachers or any caregiver working with individuals who would benefit from a calming atmosphere now have Jeff Gold’s Escapes CD to help them comfort and settle back those in their care. What great music to help young students rest after lunch or quiet them for circle times or read-alouds. At home in the homework nook, the Escapes CD should be playing to drown out the family distractions to facilitate completion of assignments in a timely manner.
No more Bed Time Battles
The mainly piano, acoustic guitars, strings and flutes music is free of true rhythmic instrumentation (drums); therefore, Jeff’s arrangements allow the listener to completely fall in a dreaminess state. The many overwhelmed parents coping with children who cannot fall asleep at night or for daytime naps will find that this CD can become their sandman at the press of a button.
We know tweens and teens also suffer from insomnia often brought on by anxiety and stress. Introducing our youth to simple relaxation, stress management tools like music and yoga can change their lives.
No More Counting Sheep
The numerous adults who also have difficulty shutting off the day’s events or the challenges of the next day can greatly benefit from this serene music that can give them peace of mind so they can find restorative, quality sleep.
My daughter, who works in a mental health crises center, explained that for very ill drop-ins they offer a few nights’ accommodations to stabilize them. To drown out unfamiliar sounds, calm and relax these agitated individuals they play relaxing music just like Escapes, to get them to unwind. Then tranquil melodies are also played in their bedrooms to help them de-stress, find some peace, and drift off to sleep.
In an interview, Jeff Gold said that he hoped his CD Escapes would make this world we live in a calmer, more relaxing place. Well Jeff, mission accomplished!

From his site I learned:
“California native Jeff Gold is a composer/musician who creates imagery through music; images that are emotional and melodic, restorative and uplifting. He composes soulful relaxing instrumentals which have received the attention of Wellness Centers, Spas and Music Therapists for their tranquil and healing qualities.
Jeff composes and arranges all of his own music, playing the guitars and pianos, and creating other instrumental sounds by computer. He also does his own mixing, mastering and editing; a skill he perfected as a television editor for shows like MTV’s “Making the Video,” “Baywatch,” “MadTV” and “The Office.”
